Spanning the years until her death in 1923, Bellzora Eliza (Ostrander) Poundstone maintained an active correspondence with her family and friends—particularly with her only daughter Helen Mary who, in 1909, married Mariel (Ell) Silas Scott. Ell and Helen farmed near Walnut Grove, Minnesota. Helen preserved many of the letters she received from her mother, and with Helen's death in 1974, this cache of personal correspondence passed to Helen’s daughter, Doris (Scott) Coke. With Doris’ death in 2017, the correspondence passed to her three nieces, Beth Harker, Janine Hebner, and Martha Ver Mulm. Bell ended each of her letters with the line "Lovingly, Mother." The letters have been transcribed into a book titled after Bell's signature sign off. The letters shine a light into the dimly-lit corners of life and the challenges of living in the early 20th Century—and into the unique personality of Bellzora Eliza (Ostrander) Poundstone. You may read them here -- Lovingly Mother.
