Nauman obituary Report on The Nauman Project
On September 28, 1870, there was a great flood in the Shenandoah Valley. Reuben Nauman's third eldest son, Hiram Godfrey Nauman, had just gotten married to a lady name Elenora Kite. Elenora was visiting her family that day, but Hiram was not with her. The Kite home along with the family was swept away by the flood waters. This excerpt from a document titled “Ruin and Desolation Scarcely Paralleled - An Examination of the Virginia Flood of 1870’s Aftermath and Relief Efforts" describes the experiences of Hiram Nauman's first wife.
